About Us
We're The Barn at Gully Tavern and we've been an event and wedding venue here in Rice, VA, since 2019. We're hands-on with our clients, offering wedding planning, photography, and multiple sites to choose from on the property. Family-owned, we started this business when two of our daughters were getting married in the same year and we built a venue for them. We decided to share the venue with other couples, and our unique endeavor was born. We're looking forward to growing our business to continue to serve Rice and the surrounding areas. Near or far, we are happy to serve areas including Cumberland, Farmville, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, Lynchburg, Midlothian, Nottoway County, Petersburg, Powhatan, Prince Edward, Ric, Roanoak, South Hill, Fairfax County, Amelia, Appomattox, Buckingham, Charlotte County, Chase City, Chesterfield. Our Story
We, Dawn and Robert Schmidt, decided to build a striking venue so that our daughters would have the perfect place to get married. With our great success, came the beginning of The Barn at Gully Tavern. After taking some time to get the name of the business out there and venue details completely ready, our family’s venue finally took off. Today, along with our daughters and sons-in-law, continue to work hands-on with our clients while looking forward to becoming one of the top wedding venues in the area.
As a unique event and wedding venue, providing the perfect space to make your memories count is The Barn at Gully Tavern's top priority. We have several locations on the property that you can choose from, with the set up and decorating executed exactly how you want, because it’s your day and it should be how you pictured it. We are always on-site during every event, so that if something happens, it can be fixed without worry.
As a business that is also local to Farmville Virginia, the convenience of having places to stay and eat that are close by helps them stand out. We also have on-site parking, because we believe that your day should be completely hassle-free. The Barn at Gully Tavern also has a beautiful pond that provides the perfect place for pictures and makes for a good escape if you need a break.

The Barn at Gully Tavern is an exceptional venue for weddings, corporate retreats, meetings and so much more. Robert and Dawn are thoughtful and caring hosts. They anticipate your every need and are so friendly.
The main house is beautifully decorated with elegant decor with ample sitting and a beautiful, up-to-date kitchen. Excellent space for a small retreat, meeting or the bridal suite.
There is an amazing "man cave" down behind the barn. The groom and his groomsmen are able to spend private time together. It has a manly deck on the back with a woodsy view to enjoy.
The Barn's grounds have numerous spaces to host your wedding with arbors, barrels, propane heaters, tables, etc. Best of all, the views of the property, the Barn and the lake with a fountain are gorgeous backdrops for any occasion.
Lastly but not least, the Barn is beautiful and rustic with breathtaking wooden beans. It has a beautiful portable stone fireplace and additional heaters. Numerous wooden rectangular tables and round white tables plus chairs are available to host a variety of events.
If you are planning a wedding, birthday party, retirement dinner, corporate retreat (large or small) or other event that you want to "wow" your family, friends or co-workers with, then we highly recommend The Barn at Gully Tavern as THE place to go.
Our son's Decenber wedding was so special and amazing. They created a beautiful Winter Wonderland at the Barn. And it was the best place to start their life together!
